PubCrawler Orientation Help: PubCrawler Profile

Setting up a profile is necessary to make use of PubCrawler's WWW-service. This service is offered free of charge and is aimed at people who either have problems installing the PubCrawler Program or who can't use PubCrawler properly due to technical constraints (computer switched off at nights, slow internet connection, etc.).

The profile specifies which queries to carry out at NCBI, what days and times to run them. It also controls the format of the output, access via cookies, and user notification after each run.

The process of creating a PubCrawler Profile consists of the following steps:

  1. Registering
  2. Generating queries
  3. Storing the queries

During the registering process you are asked to setup a schedule for the execution of your job. Everytime PubCrawler finished execution the results will be written to your personal output file, located in http://pubcrawler.gen.tcd.ie/db/user_name (replace 'user_name' with the name you are registered with). You need to type in your user name and password to access the data.

If you have activated the 'Easy Check' option, you can retrieve your results from http://pubcrawler.gen.tcd.ie/cgi-bin/pubcrawler.results and let the browser handle the authentication (through cookies).
